What are some good classes that I should take to prepare for the academy? I know i should be active in my sport and keep my grades up but is there anything special that i should take like computer classes? Also what is life like at the academy, is it like a normal college at all?

Get to be friends with an admiral's daughter like me, hahaha. Volunteer for anything you can that gets you in a position to get in contact with your state congressman or senator and get a recomendation. You're lucky because you're 14 and know you want to go to the academy, they are looking for a history of excellence, be awesome at everything. Simply put, strive for perfection at everything you do in school.

Lots of math and sciences. If you can get into honors prgrams for Calculus and Physics you will help your chances. A difficult course load looks more impressive then almost anything else, especially if you can cram a lot of extra curriculars in. Believe it or not, sports are pretty attractive, along with student govt. and every other type of leadership role.
Getting a nomination from an elected official isn't as hard as you think.
Annapolis is a school like any other great school. There is ton's of literature and pre requisite info out there. Call the school and request info. Plan now----
By the way---the health screening in pretty intensive. A good friend of mine from MIT got his admission rejected a week before he was leaving for Annapolis because they found childhood asthma. He wanted to be an engineer, so he ended up at that shi^ty school in Cambridge.

I would say as many sports for your highschool as you can, but dont take on more than you can handle.

I believe crew is a pretty good workout, I've never done it, but my buddy is on the crew team at my school and he's in real good shape, especially his abs. He can do situps, flutter kicks etc. forever. Personally, I wrestled in high school, which i believe is the best full-body workout around. But it doesn't matter. The Academy is looking for the "whole person" so try to excel at everything

Hey fellas,
Chemistry is the plebe killer here. If you can take some intense chemistry courses in highschool like honors and AP, validating that class would be clutch. It is a good idea to only take the validation if you validate Chem 1 and chem 2 though. To validate is easier than taking the course here and if you start up with chem 2 it will be a real upstream battle. Same with Calculus. I found Calculus to be pretty easy though so it was beneficial for me to take the courses and not validate to try and up my terrible chemistry grade. Physics is taken your second year unless you validate both semesters of chemistry. If you can validate both classes it would be double awesome on ya. Validating classes is the best way to loosen up your schedule to go to graduate school or double major. The one thing you need to make sure is that if you are taking challenging classes to help out your chances here you need to ensure that you can pass them with A's so you don't screw up your chances of getting in here in the first place.
Pay now or pay later. I assure you that you will pay though. Good luck and if you need any help, advice, or just a tour of the yard and classes give me a buzz(m071872@usna.edu)

AP would be better though. That way you can take the test to validate . . .
