hello, I am a DEP MA right now and Leaving in late Sept. I just recently went to visit the USS Nimitz in San Diego and talked to some MA's there. The MA I was talking to touched on SORT also known as SAT or SRT. Anyway I am very curious to what these guys do exactly and how to become apart of this team. Also would I be able to do it right after "A" school? just curious, if anyone has any information it would be appreciated
thanks

Just as an FYI, this isn't really the appropriate forum for this discussion, but I'll fill you in just the same. :)
SRT teams are basically the Navy's form of a SWAT team...they are trained in all the more intensive stuff that normal MAs are not (dynamic building entry, etc...). From what I've experienced, it's a very good job, I wish that they had a team for it where I'm currently stationed. In order to get on a team, you will have to go to your first command, wherever that may be, and usually after getting qualified for all your basic MA work, you can "tryout" for the team. They typically have higher standards for PT, shooting, etc... If SRT is something that you are interested in, work hard to get in good shape, work hard in "A" school, and be a hard charger and prove yourself to your chain of command when you get to your first duty station. I hope this helped you out a bit, if you have any questions, feel free to email me.
