I understand that annual salary depends greatly upon what rank you are and what you specialize in, but I have been studying the Army SF and have surfed all over the net but can not find a reliable source. do any of you know avg. salary of SF or have a reliable link that can provide me with this info?

thanks
Snake

If your single than it will be more than enough, trust me. If you are married like myself it will be a struggle through the Q but when you get to a Team (not platoon or glorified name for a platoon) it will be well worth it.

no doubt about it...

Its worth it man, if you are serious and this is something you want ask me anything and I will tell you what I can. I monitor this board because two years ago when I did it there was no one there to give me advice or answer my questions. I gave up a high paying salary as did my buddies here with me now, the Q is a nightmare but the day you put one that beret, you know it was worth all the pain and suffering you went through. I only wish I would have spent less time asking questions and just signed up sooner, the sooner you do it the quicker it will be over and you can go to a team. good luck.

Though I LOVE Solidsnakes picture on the profile.... I have to say there IS an Advanced Marksmanship course. Don't know all the details, except that its not sniper school where you learn to stalk.. its just hitting the range and learning the the finer details of marksmanship. Supposed to be pretty good.

I stand corrected. Any one know anything about this school??? Why not just do extra training at your home range?

cause the Army hasn't yet realized the importance of marksmanship training. Any time on the range is conducted like a waste. They just push the people through until they qualify, no concern on skill or improvement. (for the most part, there are units out there that do train hard)

we trained a unit getting ready to go overseas at the range, they historically qualify around 40%.. after a day with us over 90% qualified.

Also, that specific course goes more indepth. Can't say for sure but I believe they learn trajectory and all that also. Would be a great school to send guys to come back and train the rest of the unit.

Dont believe its epecially a "high speed" secret squirrel school, just more detailed training.

Sorry for the vague info, just learned about it talking to some guys when doing the marksmanship training.

Sounds like it's the new Designated Marksmans Course that they've started at Benning then.

Robcc, what do you recommend for blisters caused by Basic Training. I hear that SOPC and SFAS are a bear with blisters. My son is starting jump week and then scheduled for SOPC on March 5. Still looking for a cure for those blisters though.

Yeah SOPC is the worse with that, what I did is each night before we had a ruck run or some long movements with land nav I pre cut Mole Skin strips for the parts of my feet that are the most sensitive. Usually the tops of my toes and the heel and the side of my heel. It is different with everyone where you will blister. When he gets to SOPC he will get a class in foot care and they will tell him where to go and get his army issue boots outfitted with Soft Soles and new in soles, highly recommended! Clarks Boots on Yadkin.
Also SOPC lets you enhance your gear so if he wants to he can get thicker pads for his ruck straps and waist strap. I chose not to simply because when you get to selection its hit or miss if they will allow these modifications. He will be good with the boots, definently modify the boots. Any other questions let me know.

thanks for the advice. I printed off all of your posts and sent them to him today. He is going to share them with the other 18Xers that are in jump school with him. He had about 45 18exers in his OSUT and they are down to 35 now. Broken bones, failed Physical Test, and some withdrawals already.

On one of your posts you stated that if you scored high on the DLAB then you would wind up in the 10th. Just wanted some clarification on that. My son scored a 126, I think that is pretty high. So just wondering why the 10th and how the test score determines the group.

I assume since you are in Russian you scored quite high on the test. I believe that is a Cat 4 language.

Anyway thanks for all of your insight and advice. I know in other forums the kids trying to get information are basically ignored or chastised. I don't think they are trying to G2 the course, they just want to be well informed as it is a very large and long committment. I appreciate any young man who chooses SF when they have their college degree already.........knowing they could probably get OCS. But you and the others are committed to SF obviously.....and has nothing to do with money or rank.

Your parents must be extremely proud of you.

Thanks

I appreciate all of your kind words sir and I hope your son makes it all the way, and i am sure he will. DLAB scores dont really make any difference in what group you get though. We had guys score really low and still got Arabic and russian. The deal is, when your son is in Phase 3 they will assign him a group in accordance with what group needs the most people and they will try their best to meet his wish list. Pretty much everyone wants 10th so its just up to when he finishes phase 2 and what group needs what. I am a charlie and I think we finished phase 3 with 65 people and 4 got 10th, but that was due to 5th and 3rd needing so many people. We are all going the same place but it worked out great for me because my wife wanted to live in col. There really is no way to G2 the course because it always changes but any help I can give, I will so any more questions fire away.

Hey rob what's up,

Just wondering...is the 7th based in latin america? If it turns out that I due try out for SF after graduating college, and successfully complete it, I would want to use what little skills I have gained while in school and apply them there. Let me know what you think. Thanks,

Swift

Drinking and chasing girls will help you in Latin america believe me. Yes it is the South American group, and you would be in North Carolina.
