In the opinions of the MARINES on this site, should civilians use the always faithful motto Semper Fi?
I can understand a civilian using it for like support as they would by putting a "support our troops" sticker on their cars or trucks. But we don't let civilians ware the Marine hat or uniform, not just because it would be like impersonating a Marine, but because we know they haven't earned it! But I see nonmilitary personal using it all over this site. It is the official Marine motto. So in other Marines opinions, should it be alright for civilians to use it? Or do you feel it should only be echoed by us?
Think about this one. How can a civilian be faithful if he isn't or hasn't yet served!? Do you feel he's got to earn it? I don't want to make a huge debate over this one; I'm only asking for opinions!!

I am not a Marine, yet. I can still offer my opinion, right? I think anyone who has not earned the title of Marine should not use the motto. I never have and never will until I graduate boot.

just adding my .02 worth here.....NOT a SEAL.....just an old WAC (Womens Army Corp, a name now defunct....they are now called service members along with guys).
I think most of the Semper salutations I've seen used are by retired Marines....mostly. Also by some becoming or are in the process of becoming a Marine. As for using the "word" .....by civillians; I'm inclined to lean toward the use of it as a means to express a sense of commradre' by those who love the Marines (and all soldiers) and what they stand for! For instance, consider all the families and sweethearts of Marines----what better way to stay connected to your loved one than to avow Semper Fi!!!
I would like to see our nation echo......USA Semper Fidelis!
Would that be weird in your opinions? It would be a wonderful thing to see more Americans as loyal to each other as the brotherhood of the USMC.

I never put too much thought into it I guess. I just see so many people using it and it seems like it's becomming more of just a way of ending a sentence than expressing something. But you really can't prove emotions via electronic display (words on a computer). Whenever a comrade gets deployed to Iraq you place a hand on his shoulder, meet eye to eye, remind him we're always there(Semper Fi) and give three good knocks to his helmet. That shows him you mean it!
It just pisses me off so much to see some kid revert whith the message: "Hey ya'll, semper fi up man, so what's the word?" Or something like that. Then you'll have the messages that are short and unmeaningful, like: "I like ice cream too, semper fi".
Some comrades don't come home and it's the very last thing they hear from you!!!

Thanks E8MC, and I do know what you mean by no matter where you are. I was on vacation down in Florida taking the very well spent 30 days paid of freedom, and I can't remember the name of the bar, but I was chatting with some 48 yr old retired Marine and we had a nice conversation swaping stories and trust me, I thought my experiences were intence. This guy is like war hero number 9...
Anyways, and so after we bought each other like probably 14 shots; I got up to use the rest room and when I came back out his son was helping him walk out, we said our goodbye's. I sat down and drank some more. ----And just to let people know, when I'm wasted I usually don't give a crap about anyting,---- but some gals came up to me and was saying someting about: "hey we over heard you're a Marine" and I'm like ya, "well there's another Marine in the other room getting dissed." Even though I didn't know who the guy was I got up, went in there and started throwing punches in every direction I could see a face.
When we were both done, I don't know how we did it, but we kick the crap out of probably 7 very well built men. BUT I'LL TELL YOU WHAT, I'VE NEVER BEEN SO SORE IN MY INTIRE LIFE THE NEXT DAY, you just would believe it; I don't think morphine could have helped, LOL!
BUT the touching part of my story is the Marine that I stud up for had just barly got out of Boot Camp and was taking his 10 day brake. This kid didn't really have any family so that's why he was spending his short freemdom in a bar. And I feel so proud of what I did because now he really does feel like he's got a family to look up to! SHOULD TO SHOULD, LET OUR SWEAT BE OUR CRY ----SEMPER FIDELIS-- LET ALL OUR ENEMIES DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OOHHRRAAHH....

Hmmm, interesting question. To be crystal clear. I was NOT a Marine, however, considering my work with the Marine Corps I have ALWAYs greeted Marines with Sempre ever since 68. Aside from my status with those I served with, and those that I have associated with since then, I have never felt uncomfortable using the term. Slides right off my tounge.LOL I have always used it as a term of respect and endearment to my Brother Grunts. When I was coming back from RVN on EL the gentleman that "took care" of me was a
USMC Master Gunner. When we got to Frisco International The MG was supposed to show so I could buy him a beer to pay him back for buying my meals in Okie and Hawaii. He had already taken off, but one of the Army types (A REMF) called him a Jarhead. For some odd reason it pissed me off big time. I got in his face and gave him one of my best butt chewings of my short carrer. Dam, it felt so good.LOL Sorry I was never able to repay Master Gunny. I do however always buy a Marine in uniform a drink.

It does feel good. But sometimes I feel like I use combat in Bars more often than on duty, LOL! Just wait until I get married, I'll be needing fully loaded combat gear. All the women I get close to tend to be the type you wanna stay on the good side or you'll find yourself hanging by your testicles! And when you wanna have $ex, instead it's eating icecream and watching Gilmore Girls show after show after show after show; I've never hated chocolate and TV so much!

Iam a Marine and always will be if someone wants to greet me with that Iam all for it even if they are not a Marine they are showing respect to you and you should accept it that way. Hell I say De Opresso Liber to my SF friends all the time.

A few incidences in some bars requiring basic martial arts shouldn't be disgracing anything. And you're right; I should stay away from women, lol.
I keep reminding my little brother that he shouldn't join because I'm a Marine and he especially shouldn't join because he wants to show the world how tough he could be. Ego can be a downfall for anybody, even a hero; let the wind blow those blood-banked memories away and look at the difference I made for me and my country! We all have our stories, but the casualties can never be forgotten!
I appreciate your opinion! But rest assured, I don't put myself in that uniform and pick fights. I'd rather do it naked claming I'm really into russian wrestling ...........in February.

D-you ever take on a half gallon of 110 proof vodca in 6 hours!? I tell you what, you can't finish anything you sta.... Ofcourse there's alcohol poisioning to deal with HAHAHAHA. They sure have kind of oddball like treatments for it, they don't just pump your stomach and shove charchole down your throat; they also attach a tube to each wrist and run your blood through this weird machine.. I guess it filters the alcohol out, but they have to do it for bout 4 hours!
And they give you shots of every kind. You can tell they're talking to you, but you don't understand a word they're saying and it's a different kind of trip. So I've learned where I should stop before I poisen myself! (shrug) I'm not crazy, I'm just young, dumb and full of cum!

You think you hate needles, I have needle phobia... literally! That's one fear I'll never get over. My god I've taken 4 bullets to the lower leg, 3 to my stomach and 1 to my left shoulder right next to my heart, I've had my *** wiped by my martial art teacher brutely, I've been in three almost fatal car crashes and fell off of a 2 story building busting my hip and my hand (of course I fully recovered from all of them), but nothing terrifies me more than needlesssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW can anybody even stand to have those just jabbed sssssllloooowwwllllyyyy into themselves...........(shivers) My veins are tougher than normal and nobody has ever managed to pierce one the first time!!! (Shivers again)

I do believe I have a script noting somewhere that shows you how to prevent people from even using the View bar to view the pages source and from using the Edit bars 'select all' funtion and disabling the Ctrl+C function, that way people wont be able to copy any images. Let me know if you want the scriptings!

AKA -no chit chat, just ask Recon related questions and only reply with a direct answer. I've given answers to some of those questions, but I didn't join this site to answer questions ...so I'm going to take my personal conversations somewhere else (E8MCs and Courtenays websites) so ROCK I hope you can sleep better at night and I really don't have anything against you, I'm just looking for entertainment while I have my time off and I sincerely hope you get that drift!

It is hard to lighten up when you have to chase 4 friggin terrorists through a graveyard first thing in the morning.The fu*kers shot off 3 mortars at my site and ran before I could get my sights on them. My best friend who is a Green Beret and I rans OPs all day through this god forsaken graveyard but no luck. I did kill 2 dogs today though!!
BTW Iam not in the Marines anymore I woerk for DoD and I train ING's and IP's shooting tactics and Iam a bodyguard to the engineers(American) that are in charge of building this Military training base.Iam completely surrounded by a hostile town and I only have eleven Americans(all SoF types SEALs,SF and FR) here with me,Iam the Team leader and work no less than 16 hours a day.I have 150 workers from this town that come in to build everyday and everyone of them would love to take their pick axe andstick it into my head,so you must excuse me if I take this **** and my life a little serious. when he got to germany he called me up and asked me to login his account and read to him these messages and asked me to say some things.
