Ok my bro's joining the Marine Core and he wants to be a hero. So he came to me for advice .....SCHEISSE!!! I don't know where to start. And he aint lookin for a proper berping.
I can help him how to show leadership skills insuch, but I don't even know where to begin. He's got 2 months before he leaves for the boot-n-camp and I gotta basicly under my own assurance of knowledge teach him all the stuff he's gotta know by crusible. He's already in decent shape; he runs bout 2 miles just barly under 12, and well I'm not too sure on his aim, or too much of anyting else. But he's determined and now I feel all the pressure.
Basicly I'm not much of a teacher but I wanna get my little bro ready for the hells massage. I just don't know where to even start. I wanna put my feet in the boots of his future drill instructures. So for anybody out there, if ya got some advice. Please lend a word or two. Thanks.
Steven -- LOL, I've never heard of "Boot-N-Camp"!
As a former Marine Drill Instructor, I can assure you that, no matter what you and/or your brother do to "prepare" him for Boot Camp won't matter that much ... we take civvies; break you down our way, and build you up our way to our standards ... he will no longer function as a civilian who thinks by himself; he will quickly learn how to function as a "Team" or he'll be washed out of the Corps within the first 2 weeks.
If he has trouble with authority and/or someone screaming in his face, he's already in deep $hit.
Runs about 2 miles now? LOL -- tell him he will get plenty of "forced march" time with full combat gear that will cover a minimum of 10 miles every day.
As for his "aim" ... Drill Instructors will find that out quickly too on the Firing Range.

I’d have to say drill, general orders, and if you still have it let him read through your “green monster”. Like E8MC said the Drill Instructors are going to break him down regardless, you should know this. By the way is he going San Diego or Paris Island?

I know they'll shred him up under their own standards, I already made it clear to him it's going to be a world of hell when he goes; but that was never the issue.

WHAT? You never heard of Boot-N-Camp! There's no better way to say it. LOL

When I said "runs 2 miles in about 12", I was talking 12 minutes. As far as running with gear, me and my friend Mike push him 14 miles between 4 and 5 times a week. And he better not have any problem with authority or else I'll be boot-leggin his @ss all over Yellow Stone to Michel Jackson's back yard!
He really is a smart kid and bright (maybe too bright (corky shrug)). He just wants to do better than the average recruit. Me and Mike are taking him camping tomorrow and we'll teach him some survival tactics and what to do as a pow, how to set up shelter; down to hiding his own $hit after nature called, ect, ect.
The biggest problem of all is he looks up to me and so that's why I feel all this pressure. I don't want him leaving and coming back feeling I didn't make a difference. That's why I'm asking for some assistance. There's so much to teach him, I feel like I'm not going to be able to cover much before he goes; so I'm trying to take advantage of every resource I can. And if anybody could find a Marine/Boot Camp guide of some kind, I would appreciate if they would let me know it's whereabouts!
Thank you kindly E8MC, and the rest of you!

And if anybody could find a Marine/Boot Camp guide of some kind
treat him like S**t and work him ragged. You can get all the info/pamphlets you need from the recruiter, just ask

Hey everybody great news!!! We went on a 20 mile hike 2 days ago. He had the full standard weight of gear on his back and my little bro did it. Last time we attempted he only made 16 miles before the little $hit passed out. Most of the hike was about 46 digrees uphill and 50 to 60 downhill. He only fell on his @ss once.
Everybody give him a HOO RAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OOORRAHHH little guy,wow he did a great job USMC give him a thumbs up from me if ya can.Glad hes commited like that hopefully he'll do great......
That's great news -- now, give him the bad news ... he has to do this for 6 days in a row (Sunday is for Church and junk-on-the-bunk); after the run, he gets to eat a fast breakfast, then it's on to more exercise.
Report back at the end of the first week...LOL!
OOHHRRAAHH....

The pressure is not on you. You can do your best to get him prepaired for the runs and the PT but there is no way you can get him ready mentally for the pressure he will under go while going through Boot. If he has the drive and heart to always take that " one more step " he'll be fine. If not, it's like E8MC said, he won't last two weeks.

Good idea actually, I forgot about that part. I'll make him eat pretzels and warm milk, hows that for fiber? LOL.
He's got I think about 5 weeks left before he leaves...... I'm pushing him!

Sh*t I wouldnt have joined if I didnt.
He Always told me I would never make it cause unfortunatly I got my mothers genetics and she is a good sized woman and I was a pretty big kid growing up. So when I told my dad I was going to join he laughed at me for the simple reason that I was almost 325 pounds at 6 foot 1. Told him to kiss my a** and started running working out and pushing my self to the point of throwing up and then pushed my self beyond now I made it and I am still 6 foot 1 but I am 206 pounds hauling around a radio plate around half the time and a S.A.W the other half.
