UDT Museum/SEAL Muster XXIII

11/16/2008 19:02:29 / grateful

This weekend, me and a number of compatriots departed Jacksonville Florida to Fort Pierce Florida.  We left on a Friday, and came back Sunday different people.

This is because of the SEALs new and retired and really the people and the feeling in the air for SEAL Muster XXIII.  I started Saturday morning with a nice run on the beach, that earned me a handshake from a SEAL captain and a challenge coin.  Then I spent the rest of the day reliving the lives of these men, through their stories and their eyes.

I was surrounded by photographs, random explosions, and words that moved me.  Basically, this weekend was pretty badass.

Driving from Jacksonville was full of excitement, we were all excited--even got to see the space shuttle launch and thrust into space--but driving back from Ft. Pierce was quiet 90% of the time.

I think in each of us was instilled the honor of being around people that were part of something bigger than themselves, and being around a monument that stands testament to those who give the ultimate sacrifice and do so unflinching.  We were humbled into silence and reflection.

My words really do no justice to what I was subjected to, so the only real words I have left are:  THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE and those who did not go, missed out.

I would like to give a shoutout to Shar36 and Frogman80(Amir), Shar for introducing me to Amir--and Amir for taking the time to talk to me and tell me about his life and about the event beforehand.

To all those who read this, take the time to support the men of Naval Special Warfare through the UDT museum, or atleast learn about the men they are--special.

Joseph, It was a privilege to have had the opportunity to steer you and your other ROTC Classmates to attend the UDT/SEAL Museum Muster.  I am delighted you and the others took the opportunity to talk to many of the attendees.   Many of the FROGs there are legends or significant leaders in the SEAL Community.  "Patches" Watson, for instance, was one of the FIRST SEALs.  He always very approachable and eager to provide advice to young men interested in the incredible challenge of being a SEAL.

Your performance in the 5K beach run was impressive.  The SEAL Captain you mentioned is a Team mate of mine.  I too was excited to shake the hand of a Team mate that advanced to the rank of Captain, and, to that of an Admiral, as well.  Admiral Winters and I, not only served together, but we socialized together during our Ensign days.

The one and most important asset that you and your fellow classmates are taking back with you to college, is the fact that "A DREAM", that was equally shared by the Frogmen you met, has been reinforced through dialog and example.   Each of your dreams can now be regarded as valid.  Your dream is attainable and you know it!  Now it is up to you to continue to pursue your dream with the same passion that you felt coming form the Frogmen you met.   With out a doubt, this feeling is contagious.  I am glad you and your classmates "GOT THE BURN".  Always willing to help! ..Frogman80...HooYah!

Joe...I'm glad that you were able to make it down to the Muster and meet Amir/Frogman80.  He has lead an amazing life and his stories never disappoint.  I was more than happy to put you in touch with Amir and if you ever need anything else, let me know. I'll do whatever it is that I can to get you to where you're heading.  Thanks for the kind words, they are appreciated.  ~Shar
