Training, Training, and tired of this routine.

I'm not so sure how to start this blog. Mostly because I am afraid of not honoring the community that I hope to belong to someday.

I train everyday doing endurance circuit workouts and my LSD, CHI, INT training. I don't do any weight training for the fear of losing flexibility and muscle endurance. This workout has increased my PST scores quite dramatically.

This is all great and is working for me quite well but, my problem is that I live in a small town and as my best friend and I train for BUD/S I am feeling this aloneness and I am just not enjoying this waiting period before I ship out.

Maybe I am just b****ing and this is just the way the road is when you are training to be one of the elite in the world. I just wish there was a bit of understanding from others in my life of what I'm trying to achieve. There may never be understanding and I have accepted that.

It's difficult to be social and enjoy these few short months before I start my life when everyone my age is drinking and smoking. Now that I have quit drinking and don't smoke I am alone on this journey with my friend.

I just have a few questions... Is this normal? Do you guys have any ideas of things I could do to enjoy these last few months?

I think maybe I just need to suck it up and stop complaining.

Thanks, DEP Recruit LuVisi

P.S. I do, do hikes and martial arts when I have the money but for some reason this is not enough for me.

You don't have to be a social outcast to train for BUD/S.  I drank and partied all the time while i was training and on the weekends when I was at BUD/S.  You need to blow off steam.  BUD/S is way more mental than physical.  Enjoy yourself before you have to ship off.

see, the way im figuring is the day i don't work out is the same day YOU or Johnny Doe ARE working out. ANd obviously i do NOT want to have you or johnny doe sticking it to me at BUDs.

Like you said, sometimes it seems the waiting game is the worst part. I totally agree. Do what I do then. Sign up for a half marathon in the next month...now now dont be a b!tch, sign up for one at the end of march, and focus on that (im running the pasadena half). you k now, if you're losing sight, train for something that you can see!

g'luck!

I shared your pain, almost becoming a complete social outcast.  As far as getting through the routines I just treat each new day as a competition from last weeks training.  I always try to out-perform my previous workout and not worry about the next day.  Least this way I'm not dreading each passing day.  Furthermore I realized I am actually accomplishing something.  Sure now we are suffering but we will be the ones who look forward to getting up every morning and heading off to work.

Hey I deal with the same problem. Sometimes I just don't feel like doing my workout on certain days and here was my problem: I was doing the same routine over and over again. You eventually get bored and you don't have the same urge to do that workout as you would with something new. Try to see if there are any trainers at your local gym because trainers tend to have workouts planned out. Also if you go to the GET SEAL FIT section on the toolbar and then click on "workouts" section it has a different workout to do every day. You don't necessarily need to "suck it up and stop complaining" but changing your routine might help. You could still do what you already do, but throw in some other things to have a variety of workouts. At BUD/S they have all sorts of workouts and drills that they have you do that push you to your limits so try to change it up a bit. Hope this helps.

Oh-& please ecuse all the typos I discovered after I posted my reply-I've been up all night on a FX with my Boot Camp...

As a multi-level certified Fitness Professional I work with the military, athletes and the everydayu public.  Inaddition to my Boot Camp, I spend most of my days performing one-on-one personal training with clients who have varied fitness goals...

Your situation is the norm.  Most people who "train" to achieve a goal other then with a goal of personal fitness for the joy of that success, usually look at training as a necessary evil.  I have athletes from many different sports who excell in their domain who I have to almost drag into the gym.  I have military people who are either on the a "weight-body-fat profile" that are facing loosing their jobs who refuse to train without a fight, I have young troopers who are awaiting their SF Q-Course PT Tests who won't train-cops trying out for SWAT or the Tactical Dive Teams that WILL NOT TRAIN!

They want the result, but after a while the gym is the lasr place they want to be!  It just has to be done to achieve your personal fitness & career goal!  Like tha ad say; "JUST DO IT!!!"

Your goals are different then those of your friends-it's worth the effort.  Don't forget, the training you must endure to get into the SPECOPs community is nothing compared to the endless training evolutuions that are the daily routine once you get their-If your're not fighting-you're training.  If you're not fit-you fail...

Take it one day at a time-evry training day behind you is one day closer to your goal.  Is this where I say, "The Only Easy day was Yesterday!" ?

Good Luck

you aren't alone.  Think of it this way, when you aren't training everyone else is.  You're human, so its natural to feel like crap somedays--but the people that want to kill you train hard so that's what you got to do too.
